Redbrae Cottages - Antrim Coast & Belfast

These are places I've actually stayed at and recommend:

Kilwarlin Cottages

Lurganconary Organic Farm

Beech Cottage (rather rustic)

Limepark

I stayed at the Crocaktinny Guesthouse and they have two self-catering cottages, which I've not seen the inside of.

I've inspected the cottage at Ballynester House and liked it. I've stayed at the B&B and it is superb.

I was wondering if anyone has had any expericance with Redbrae Holiday Cottages.  It's located at 56 Largy Road Carnlough Co Antrim.  I am considering it as a base for 3 nights to explore Belfast (Titanic Experinace and city)one day and the Antrim coast (Giants Causeway, Dark Hedges, Carrick Rope Bridge, etc) for the other days.  The location seems to a nice central base on the edge of the eastern coast line that I asume will have a great sunrise view.  Any thoughts are welcome.

I haven't stayed in those particular cottages.

If you are looking for a cottage that will allow you to get to all of those places, I would suggest Cuan Cottage in Portaferry. I have a client who is now in her 4th year of booking in with them for a week to two weeks. She has been all over the North of it using that as her base.

If you want something within the Glens, the Largy Coastal Apartments might be worth considering.

I know that Michele has the Limepark Cottages listed in her self-catering area.  They are inland.

Thank you CowboyCric!

Cuan Cottage is a little south from where I wanted to be but Largy Costal Apartments is in the right spot and has a great dec for the sunrise pictures. Rates are good too. The only think we would be giving up that we would miss would be a fireplace. Chrissy loves a fire at night. Not a requirement but I did think it would be nice to snuggle up to after a long day of exploring or if the weather kept us indoors on a day.

Something to think about for sure.

JOe,

I am searching my lists for fireplaces... LOL

There is one up near BUshmills with a sea view...that has a fireplace...Bluebell Cottage . I think Aird Cottage might have a fireplace. It is in teh Bushmill area, as well.

Thank you both for all the suggestions! Chrissy fell in love with the view from the apartment at Largy Costal Apartments and it is very central to the majority of the places we have on our list in Antrim. We will have a rental car and don't mind driving a while to get to places so an hour from Belfast is still good. They do have our dates open so I think we will be staying there. Chrissy surprised me by picking the view over the fireplace. I'm sure the week before and after the trip she will be snuggling in front of ours to get her fix but the extra effort on the fireplace suggestions are certainly appreciated Cowboy.

At the moment it looks like we will be doing Wednesday to Friday at Largy to explore Belfast and Antrim.

Saturday and Sunday we have open at the moment. Not sure if we will stay north or start to head down the western side yet.

Then from Monday until Wednesday we will be spending the big cash for her dream to stay in a suite at Dromoland Castle. smile

Thursday our final night we will be spending at Beechwood Country House thanks to Michele's suggestion in the book and we fly back home with sad eyes on an 11:30 flight out of Dublin.

Joe,

Seeing as you are headed for the west coast and Dromoland, you will want to look at heading in that general direction Saturday and Sunday. That isn't a short trip from Largy to Dromoland ... approximately 235 to 290 miles if you cut down through Ballymena, Cookstown and the middle of the country..depending on your routing

You could look to break up the drive with a stay in Sligo town or pehaps Roscommon town. T'were it me, that would be an easy choice, as Roscommon town is like a second home and there is so much rich archeolgical history in Co Roscommon that most never experience

Gleeson's Townhouse is my lodging of choice in Roscommon town. Mary & Eamonn are most delightful. Roscommon castle and the lake park are just a few minutes stroll...and the Abbey is about five minutes through town the other direction walking ...Doorly's across the square is a great place for a pint and a chat...you should find trad music there of a Saturday night....

You could also opt for two nights in Galway and venture out from there to see the Connemara or take a trip out to the Arans... Adare Guesthouse has a car park free of charge for its guests...which is a goldmine in Galway! Grainne is a grand cook and the guesthouse is central to all the sites of Galway..She can point you in the direction of the best pubs and restaurants

And please... call me "Bit" ...I answer best to that biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Bit,

Thank you for the additional suggestions. I was looking at maybe Sligo and visiting Glencar Waterfall. Do you know how much further Gleeson's townhouse would be from the Glencar Waterfall area? Galaway might be a good place for Sunday. Still need to do a lot more sight exploration on these areas yet. You and Michele have been very valuable resources in my planning. Thank you again for that!

Joe,

If you want to see the sights in Sligo, then stay in Sligo. It is a lovely area. I've spent a week at a time there and never ran out of things to do and see.
