In March, we are going to stop at Clonmacnoise the first day after landing in Dublin. I think we should arrive right as it opens, and wondered -- if weather is not a factor -- how long it would take for us to see everything there at a liesurely pace? Anything else near there to check out before going to Kilbeggan tour and then to Birr?
About an hour should be enough time and the weather plays the usual part it does for any open air sights, What makes less sense is to drive past Kilbeggan then doubling back to double back again.

The issue is that we will be getting to that area by mid morning, and I wasn't sure that Kilbeggan would be open, but knew that Clonmacnoise would be. I know it is coming back through an area we will have driven through, but it's not too far -- in fact we might opt for the Tullamore Dew Distillery instead of going back up to Kilbeggan. And I think I would rather have the complimentary "sip" after I've had some lunch somewhere.
The visitor's center at Clonmacnoise is inside. There is a movie you can see and they have moved the actual high crosses inside to prevent further deterioration by the weather and replaced them with replicas outside. There is also a cafe there. But the majority of the site is outside.
Thanks -- am guessing with a visitor's center, a museum, and walking the area that maybe we should plan two hours there. If the weather is nice I might really take my time, as I have heard it is a remarkable setting.
