Ballyseede or Ballynahinch?

Hi, We are planning our trip from May 26 through June 3. This is our first trip to Ireland. We plan on staying in B&Bs and one night in a castle.  Based on our route, our choice is Ballyseede or Ballynahinch.  We are looking for a castle experience without any specific expectations.  Which would you suggest?  What are the differences in atmosphere?  thanks so much for your help.  this is a great website!

What is the Itinerary overall.. Either would be good options Ballynahinch gets a few locals popping in now and then Ballyseede is more guests only. Ballynahinch is a Victorian Hunting and Fishing Lodge, Ballyseede is a Victorian Manor (as are most Irish "castle" hotels)..My choice would be the Connemara but without sight of the whole picture that advice might not be the best?

I've been to both and I like the location and estate of Ballynahinch. What is a "castle" and what isn't is open to interpretation. Take a look at my article Ireland's Real Castle Hotels.

Thanks for your reply. I read up on Connemara it sounds absolutely beautiful.

With this our first trip and just 8 days, we are doing a southwest loop.  Start in Dublin, two nights in Cork, two in Kerry, Galway, Trim.  We want to stay in an area a couple of days and explore versus every night moving to a new location. We are doing BBs, but wanted one Castle experience.  Any help on castle recommnedations is appreciated.

With only 8 days and wanting to take your time I recommend you stay south of Galway. Connemara is a place I hold dear but it's too much for your brief. Have a night in Ballyseede before seeing some of west Clare and a night in Kinvara or Galway before heading back over to Trim.
