My friend and I finally have settled on an itinerary, and we will be in Dublin for 5 days at the end of October. There is plenty we want to do there, but we would also like to rent a car and take a day trip to the Wicklow National Forest.
My questions are:
Is this drivable and see-able in a day, or should we plan to stay in the area for the night?
I have been to Ireland before but my friend has not, and this is our attempt to get her out of the city so she can see the beautiful countryside. Are there any other suggestions of other 'day trips' from Dublin?
Lastly, can anyone recommend some B&B's that are fairly priced that are near city center (in Dublin)? Most of the ones I am finding are too far out for my tastes. We dont mind noise so much as we want two comfortable beds in a central area.
Rather than renting a car for a day, you might want to take advantage of some of the small tours that will take you to Glendalough, Newgrange, etc. You can also opt to grab the train to Kilkenny and spend the day exploring Kilkenny.
I usually recommend Eliza Lodge, a boutique B&B on the edge of Temple Bar that is fairly reasonable by Dublin measures. With 5 days in Dublin, you might also consider a self-cater apartment.
