This seems a silly question, but...I want to go ahead and reserve our rental car for May and I'm second guessing myself on which car class (i.e., size) we should rent. Three of us will be traveling (one 6'2", one 5'4", one 5'2"--the shortest will not be driving). We are hoping to pack with one carry-on roller each, one small backpack or day bag each, and two empty totes at the beginning of the trip, filled with little goodies at end of trip. I thought we'd go with a Class C car (e.g., Ford Focus). Does that sound reasonable to others? I know the luggage icons suggest 2/2 for luggage capacity, but I'm surprised by that. I've seen Ford Focuses (Foci?) before and would guess they could hold more.
I agree with Bill. Other cars that fit 4 perfectly are the Renault Megane and Opel Vectra. I don't know what "class" they are at your car company though.
One more question on car rentals. I'm still getting quotes so haven't chosen a company yet. However, the Dan Dooley site says there is a $2000 deposit for anyone who waives the CDW. WHAT? Is this common now? I don't think we had to do this in 2002.
Certain car companies will put a "hold" on your credit card of a certain amount if you decline CDW and have it covered by your credit card. If you get in an accident this amount will automatically be put on your cc and will not be removed till your cc satisfies all claims. This varies greatly between the car companies.
Why don't you get a quote from Kemwel from my "Car Rental" page? They usually have good rates (in US dollars) and don't have the extra "hold" deposit. Otherwise, keep shopping.
