Dublin B & B

I will be flying from Rome to Dublin on May 10, and then flying back to the US on May 13th. I am looking for an  inexpensive B & B or hotel. Ok, I know the inexpensive and Dublin don't got together but I have to try!!

Does anyone know anything about a B & B called The Charles Stewart Bed and Breakfast?

Is it's location (5/6 Parnell Square, Dublin 1), close to most of the sights in Dublin?

Any suggestions on the must sees in Dublin would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about the B&B you mentioned (Michelle will be able to offer better advice about accommodations than I can), but Parnall Square is at the top of O'Connell Street, so walking to the city center should be fairly easy (I stayed off of O'Connell Street just a few blocks closer to the Liffey than Parnall Square).  You'll come down O'Connell Street to the Liffey, cross the bridge, and to your left (east) is Trinity College and on your right (west) is the Temple Bar area.

As for what not to miss in Dublin, that depends on your interests.  For me, Kilmainham Gaol was a must-see.  Lots of folks like the Hop On-Hop Off bus that hits most of the sights.  You can get off at places that interest you and then catch a later bus to continue your tour.

You would be staying close to the Dublin Writers' Museum (it's also on Parnall Square) and you'll pass the Garden of Remembrance and the GPO as you head down O'Connell Street.

Have a great trip!

MouseHunter,

I have not personally visited The Charles Stewart Bed and Breakfast. However, if you stay south of the River Liffey you will be much closer to the sights you probably want to see. North of the river is generally less desirable. Have you looked into the Jury's Inn Christchurch? They usually have pretty good rates.

Some of the top sightseeing in Dublin is Trinity College, Book of Kells, Kilmainham Gaol, Guinness, the various museums, the various cathedrals, Dublin Castle. The hop on hop off bus tour will give you a good orientation to the city and then you can get on and off for 24 hours at any stop. Haven't been to the Charles Stewart, but it was recommended in one the guidebooks I bought (I just copied the info last summer and forgot to note the source...see below). I've stayed north of the Liffey several times...the area has turned into a popular shopping/condo area west of O'Connell...east has cleaned up a quite a bit as well, but can still make one a bit uneasy in the evening. Realize that staying north of the Liffey adds a 10-20 minute walk to the main sites south of the Liffey...and many places that say "a short walk to O'Connell Street" can mean another 20 minutes...which can be a real pain when it's raining.

CHARLES STEWART
Just north of O’Connell St., the Charles Stewart has 76 clean, spacious room and functional rooms with small bathrooms for a very good price. Rooms in the new extension to the rear are huge and very quiet.
