RE: Solo trip in November! First time in the winter...

Looks like things are shaping up, a chara! I just realized that I hadn't sent you the Ireland of the welcome magazine. I will put it in the mail tomorrow.  I see that you are staying at Dundrum house. You will love it there! Would you mind if I sent something along for Liz?

Oh....one more thing..... got room in your baggage for me?  biggrin

Christy,

My husband saw the Northern Lights in Oct in No. Ireland. He said they lasted for 10-15 minutes before the clouds moved in. Unfortunately he didn't wake me up. It happened in the middle of the night.

I have an app that texts me when the conditions are right for northern lights, as well as a prediction page (only good for about an hour in the future, though) on favorites. I can hope!

Carry on only, Bit!! :P

Is it a bad thing that I keep looking at the airfare each day, to assure myself I got the best deal? (I did, so far - it's up almost $100 from when I bought it)

Unless you sprang for the High Dollar, 'Coach' ticket that is cancelable, don't torture yourself over 'Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda', "What Ifs". At this point, It Is What It Is.

I usually buy my tix about 90-100 days out -- mostly, in order to select decent seating.  Once they are bought, I try to resist the temptation to EVER 'Look Again'.  There is enough Drama and Anxiety in my life, without adding in unchangeable events ... biggrin    cry cry   biggrin

As the Irish say "Don't borrow trouble". Yours is a done deal so move on to more fun parts of the planning.

So far, I've proven I got the best deal available in the last six months, and that makes me feel fine :) :) :)

Tonight, I'm off to a concert to watch Julie Fowlis (she sings in Scottish Gaelic, and was one of the singers in the movie Brave).

The concert was lovely! I was sixth row, and was able to take a little video, even.

I got to meet Julie and her band afterwards, albeit briefly. Two weeks to go!

And they saw Northern Lights last night in Ardara and Antrim. They sometimes follow 28 day cycles, so I might actually get lucky :P

If you get lucky with the Northern Lights be sure to snap some photos! My husband is still in the doghouse for not waking me up to see them. furious

Oh, I shall!!!

I'm off work at noon, flight at 3:35 out of Pittsburgh (an hour and a half drive away).

I JUST got an email this morning from Cedar Lodge B&B in Westport that she can't host me, due to a medical issue. So.... I'm quickly trying to find something else.

Christy,

Welcome back! I've actually been reading your trip report on another forum. wink Thanks for coming here to post your experiences too. I know the forum members will love reading it. What wonderful detail and lovely descriptions. I have been to so many of the places that you explored and felt like a fly on the wall as you traveled all over the country. I certainly felt for you when you couldn't find some of the places on your list. I search in vain for many sites too and then put them off for my next trip. Ireland makes us come back again and again. biggrin We need to start a club called Ireland Lovers Anonymous. But it will never cure us!!

Ah! I'm glad - I wanted to wait to put it all on here until after I completed the trip. Some day I'll find all the places!!!!
