Where should we stay for a week?

We are planning to spend one week driving around to see the sites and another week based in a cottage somewhere in the south western portion of Ireland. The idea is to relax with some day trips, but nothing ambitious. We would like a country setting, but close enough to do trips to the Ring of Kerry, Dingle and other sites in that area. What town or area do you suggest for our one week cottage stay?

Kenmare. And you will have wonderful hosts and a great cottage at Doire Farm Cottages: http://www.kenmareholidaycottages.com/ I've stayed in all three and they are lovely.

I also highly recommend these cottages, many of which are walking distance to town (not a countryside location) although they have two in a rural area: http://www.kenmarerentals.com/

We stayed at Tir Na Nog Bed and Breakfast in Dualla, Cashel. We loved it so much that when we go back next may we are going to be spending our entire 10 day trip there. It is central and you can go everywhere from there. Also, the most important reason we are going back, is because of the gracious hosts, Tommy and Joan Maloney. They treat you just like family and Tommy is always good for a "joke"! They are inexpensive and offer discounts for extended stays. Plus, that Joan makes a mean Full Irish and it is soooooo good! Check them out if you want on trip advisor, they are well worth it! I miss them sooo much! Tell them Larissa and Sheila, the Kentucky Fried Chickens sent you over! Check out my blog for all my pictures and great stories.....it is still a work in progress! www.larissasmuncy.com Let me tell you too! COMB THROUGH THIS ENTIRE SITE! Michelle and all the contributers are womderful and very informative! I used this blog for 4 moonths everyday before we left, and have told everyone that it is the place go if you want travel advice! THEY ROCK!

Thanks for the recommendations. Kenmare was a town we were thinking about, but now feel better about it. I went on the Website for Doire Farm Cottages and they look fine. How far from town are they and what does the area near the farm look like? Most of the pictures on the site were very limited. Thanks again.

Wow your blog is great. I'm on day three and feel as if I'm there with you. All of the pictures and your stories are very helpful. I'm going to be bummed when I get finished with day 5. Please continue the great work.

PS Did you bring your GPS from home or buy one when you got there?

Doire Farm Cottages are about a 10 minute drive into Kenmare. They are located on the Kilgarvan Road. They are up a hill from the main road in a very rural area with mountains in the distance.
