Trip March 10-19

Michelle,

We, three women, are leaving New York and arriving in Shannon on the morning of March 11.

This is a tentative schedule, and does it seem doable to you? I have driven many times in Ireland, and I know the hours that driving directions give are much longer when you are actually on the road.

Well, here goes:

March 11    arrive Shannon, Ireland ( our home of the heart!)drive to Doolin. Stay at Susan Daly's B&B.   Maybe rest for 2 hours, then drive to Kilfanora to visit Vaughns (to buy set dancing shirts for friends) then go to the Cliffs.

March 12  Leave Doolin, drive along the coast, possibly do the Loop Head drive. Go to kilimer ferry pier and drive to Dingle.

March 13 and 14 do the Dingle tour! I know we will get there late on the 13th, but we will have all day on the 14th to drive around. I think we will stay at Jackie O'Shea's B&B in Ventry (http://www.ireland-discover.com/ventry.htm

March 15 Drive to Cashel, visit the Rock of Cashel, and Clonmel. Possibly stay in Farrenwick House. http://www.clubi.ie/Farrenwick/index.htm

March 16 and 17 Drive to Newtownmountkennedy in Wicklow, stay at the Marriott Druids Glen, visit Glendalough in particular. and Avoca

March 18 drive to Bunratty, maybe do the dinner at the Castle, or just shop and visit the pubs Stay the night and in the morning,

March 19  sadly, pack and go to the airport and head for home (the US one)

I know I have a lot of driving going from Doolin to Dingle, and that would be the worst day. What do you think of the overall plan?

Thanks for any and all advice!

Slan go foill,

BallyKPat

BallyKPat,

You are covering quite a bit of territory but since you know the realities of driving in Ireland, I would say it is doable. If you do Loop Head on the way to Dingle it will indeed be a long day. Let the weather determine it. If it is fabulous out Loop Head is heaven. If it is pouring rain or foggy, skip it.

Didn't you stay at Farrenwick before? If you want to try something different I highly recommend Joy's Rockside House in Cashel. The owners couldn't be nicer, rooms are great, breakfast delish plus you can fall asleep to views of the Rock of Cashel just outside your window. Another plus is it is just around the corner from town so walking to restaurants and pubs takes 5 minutes. http://www.joyrockside.com

As you know, the drive from Wicklow to Bunratty will take around 4 hours. Too bad you couldn't have left from Dublin but such is life.

You have a good mix of 2-night and 1-night stays along the way. I hope you and your friends have a ball!

Michele
