End of an Era

Sadly, Pat Preston's website IrelandExpert.com is no more. She and her husband John were such great advocates of travel to Ireland. They are missed as well as the site.

Yeah it is sad. I used to enjoy Pat's website and forum back in the day.

That makes me sad, as well - it was a great resource from a very helpful lady.

Pat was a pioneer and a font of detailed knowledge.  While she could come off a trifle 'stand-offish", or defensive of her Expert status, on occasion, she really knew her stuff.  Such a pity that the family decided to let the site slip off into oblivion as they did.

Her "Irish" web-site was the first that I discovered, (back in the days of 'Dial-Up' modems) and it was ALWAYS a handy reference point. I know that some LOVED her Bus Tours, as well, even though that was never my "thing".

And, even though I've always felt more comfortable here by Michele's easy-going, welcoming style and the friendly camaraderie of my fellow IrelandYes "Irregulars" -- which sometimes included Pat, herself, under the screen name of 'Writer' -- Pat Preston's contribution to Irish Tourism and travel "chat" is immeasurable.

She is, and will be, sorely missed.

It is both sadness and relief that I feel in learning this. WHen Pat was alive and well, the site was a grand place to go for advice, chat and all. After her passing, though I know the family tried, it became a veritable wasteland of spam. It hurt my heart to try and wade through it. Try I did for several months. It just became overwhelming, more so for the family, I am sure.  no
