Number 31 Dublin

Hey everybody...what's shakin'?

Has anybody stayed at the Number 31 hotel in Dublin.  http://www.number31.ie/index.htm

It gets mostly the highest rated reviews on tripadvisor.com, but then gets a couple horrible ones as well.  Very strange.  It looks great, in a good location, for a good price.  It seems to be a little 'different', which we would be fine with.  I'm wondering if the negative reviews were left by people that wanted a more traditional place to stay.

Any thoughts, experience, etc?

Shawn

PS...all of the other lodgings are all set!

Laragh House, Robeen House, Emlagh Lodge, Hillcrest View, & Stonehaven

Shawn,

It is sometimes hard to decipher TripAdvisor's reviews. Anyone can post a review there and it has been discovered in the past the the actual owners of a few properties were posting their own glowing reviews under "assumed names". You must always keep things like that in mind when researching. There are also people who will not be pleased with anything.

Check out Bewley's Ballsbridge Hotel: http://www.bewleyshotels.com/ballsbridge_hotel_dublin.asp It is a good 30 minute walk to downtown (or a quick bus ride). But the price is excellent, it is a nice location and it gets good reviews.

Samantha Brown (Travel Channel's Passport to Europe series) stayed at a Dublin Bewley's and was really, really happy with what she got for the money.

Thanks for the recommendation Michele. It looks nice. Not as close as we wanted, but close to the DART and the airport shuttle brings you to the door step. Have you heard anything about the Harcourt Hotel? I think at this point, it may between that and Bewley's. I was originally going to do Jury's Christchurch, but there were so many complaints about them overbooking (and having to be relocated) that I decided not to take the risk.

Hi

Thought I'd chime in on this.  My wife and I stayed @ the Jury's Customs House Hotel.  It is 2 blocks east of O'connell st. along the River Liffy.   They were in the phase of making that area a financial district.  The Hotel IS on a busy street, but the room was good and the breakfast was great.  I think we were on the 4th floor, street side/river and when looking out the window, we could see Sugarloaf mountain down towards Wicklow.   Another thing is as you walk toward downtown, from the hotel, the Potato Famine Memorial can be viewed, plus a man made lagoon can be admired for a soothing effect in a bustling city.

oh, another neat thing when looking out the hotel window is that below is a boathouse (I guess for the city). Well their docked was a Viking type boat.  The front swooping up with some kind of Viking insignia.  That was pretty cool.

That's it for now
