Wicked Winter Weather in Ireland

More winter storms are headed for Ireland: http://tinyurl.com/oy3wmyp Gales, rain, flooding and historic sites claimed by the sea. Will the rain never end? cry

It's nothing new and next time it happens in another 15 or 30 years it will come as a huge surprise again..

Problem is that the winter storms have coincided with the highest tide cycle and the coldest months all in one..

There is a lot of damage and a lot of tidying up which can be done and is being done.. the floods inland are not yet at the 2008/09 levels and we managed those..

My thoughts are with the people who have lost older properties, businesses and the damaged graveyards. Some people who have lost or have damaged new builds don't deserve sympathy as they were warned not to build there in the 1st place..

Communities are coming together and the councils are sitting down deciding who can cream the consultancy cash and claiming to have spent money where work has actually been done foc. by local volunteers.

Come the end of the month things will be getting back to normal, aid money will have been dished out and the west of Ireland will be out of sight out of mind once more..

By the time St Patrick's come round it will be business as usual and all visitors welcome along the "Wild Atlantic Way" will have little thought as to why it got it's name..

Now I have to get the portable genny ready so we have power to watch the Rugby on TV this afternoon.

Has Thoor Ballylee washed away yet?

I guess it is like here in Atlanta where 3 inches of snow cripples the city. As soon as it is over the blame game begins.

Haven't been down into Gort for a couple of weeks and the water in Coole Park was just up to the rest shelter (that 8ft high fixture was underwater in 09) the Shannon in Portumna is over a ft up not the 5ft when the ESB opted not to open the gates by Sixmilebridge that year and flooded everywhere..
Just had the neighbour with a dairy farm round this afternoon and they are really suffering with 60 cows having to be feed in the sheds rather than the fields which are mud brown rather than grass green.
