smoking in pubs?

Hi Everyone

I'm visiting Eire in July.  I have heard that pubs and restaurants are now non-smoking.  Can anyone confirm this for me? I am so allergic to smoke, but really want to visit the pubs.

I'll be checking this board for other tips.  I've really enjoyed reading your reports etc.

I'm waiting for my board registration to come through.

Yes , the pubs are now non-smoking areas !

I happened to be in Westport the day it went into effect last March. People took to it much better than I expected. Being a non smoker myself, I thought I was in heavan !

You do have to go through a "Smoking Gauntlet" heading into the pubs, as all the smokers now hang out just outside the entrance. It is not bad at all.

You can now enjoy a pint, and listen to music without having to throw away your clothes after!

Cheers!

Jan,

As everyone has confirmed, the pubs in Ireland (and indeed most all inside areas) are now smoke free. Just hold your breath as you pass through the smokers outside. Enjoy!
