Kilkenny-cork-killarney-dingle

Hello, my husband and I and two small children want to see southern ireland. What are your thoughts on spending 1 night  each at a B and B. Would it be better to choose two out of the four and stay 2 nights per town, or do you think hitting all 4 is doable at one night per town, let me know your thoughts.

thank you!

Welcome to the forum. Do you only have 4 nights in Ireland? With two small children I think it would be less stressful if you had more multiple night stays as opposed to one night stays. Getting packed up and out each day, then finding your new B&B, unpacking and settling in again only to get up and pack next morning...well you get the picture.

What are your arrival and departure cities?

Need more information but doubtful...

Assuming Dublin in and out? Kilkenny straight from the airport, direct is possible. Cork from Kilkenny can be done as can Killarney from Cork and DinGle from Killarney,, But DinGle back to Dublin is over 5 hours drive. A road trip is perhaps not the best approach with youngsters..

You could get the train from Dublin to Killarney and take day trips from there to Dingle or the Ring of Kerry or into the National Park, Gap of Dunloe, Muckross etc.

Get the Bus from there to Cork and bus/train from Cork to Dublin.

My husband is from Dublin and we will bein Ireland visiting his family. The first week we are stayin in a Dun Laoghaire hotel, we have 4 nights to travel before driving to Galway to holiday with the family. I love B and Bs and wanted to stay at all four cities in the south. I just don't know which cities to go to. Was t sure if I was being crazy wanting to stay at a different B and B every night.

Cork can be done as a day trip from Dun Laoghaire car/bus/train or as the start of a run up to Galway,, Dingle to Galway is a fair old drive even without the usual detour for the Cliffs and then depends where in Galway which is a fair sized county,, Yes I think it's a bit much with Kids in tow but its not my holiday.

If your goal is to stay at as many B&Bs as possible then you will want to spend each night at a different place. I don't know how old your kids are but they may not be enchanted with being in the car so much. Plus you are basically just driving from place to place without much time for seeing things.

You could see Kilkenny as a day trip from Dun Laoghaire and cross that overnight off your list.

If it were me I would do 2 nights in Kinsale and 2 in Killarney. That will allow you to have some fun on vacation.

I suggest staying in Dualla. It was very central to everything the entire time we where in the southern region of Ireland. We could get to everything and back during the course of the day. We loved our little B and B. It was kid friendly too! Tir Na Nog in Dualla, is owned by Tommy and Joan Maloney. You can see them on trip advisor as well.
