touring wicklow region

Hi Michele, great info on this forum.  Three of us are going to Ireland for the first time in June for 14-15 days. We are really into outdoor activities. Horseback riding, tennis, hiking etc. We want to fly into Dublin for 2 days then on to Kinnity castle for 2 days, Galway for 3 days, Tralee one day, Killarney 3 days, Kilkenny 2 days, end with Dromoland Castle 2 days, fly out of Shannon. Kinnity castle has a lot of interesting things listed on their web site. Horseback riding, tennis, falconry, and haunted castles so we wanted to go there first after Dublin then end with Dromoland Castle. We would then have a Castle stay in the beginning and end of our trip.  We fly into Dublin, arrive 9:00am. Tour Dublin area. Next day take a bus tour to Newgrange. Next day pick up car and drive south to wicklow area and maybe even down to Avoca. My question is.. Is it possible in the same day to then travel back to Kinnity castle? Maybe by going through Kildare. Another possiblility is doing the "Dirty tracks" walking tour of the Wicklow area, then leave for Kinnity the next day. Have you heard of this tour group? Is it a fun way to see the wicklow area? Thanks, Colleen

The tour group is called Dirty Boots Treks. I just found the correct spelling and name of the group.

Colleen,

You are doing quite a bit of zig-zagging around with your proposed itinerary. I assume you are departing from Shannon since your last night's stay is at Dromoland Castle? If so, it might make sense to do the eastern part of Ireland first and then proceed to the southwest and west.

Wicklow is a perfect place for hiking and outdoor activities. I would not try to see it and end at Kinnity all in one day. If you decide to skip Wicklow I would highly recommend adding the Dingle Peninsula. Try to re-think your itinerary to cut out the zig-zagging. I will be happy to comment on what you come up with. And don't be discouraged. Few people get an itinerary right on the first try.

Michele

P.S. I have not heard of Dirty Boots Treks, however, their website indicates that they are approved by Failte Ireland, they are members of Dublin Tourism Association and their guides are qualified. You are most likely safe booking with them.
