Easter in Ireland

We are going to be in South West Ireland over Easter weekend. Is there anything in particular we should factor in to our trip, e.g., are attractions closed,

e.g., Would we be able to get out to Skellig Michael? Are restaurants and stores/shops open?

Should we plan a hiking day weather permitting?

1 -- Easter Weekend is a THREE Day Holiday -- I would book accommodations EARLY.  Best bet might be Hotels as restaurants MIGHT be closed.

2 -- Trips to Skellig are ALWAYS weather-dependent and problematical, in Spring.  Best to contact the Tour Company Directly -- http://www.skelligislands.com/

3 -- SOME shops, etcetera MAY be closed, as this is the last 'Big' holiday before start of The Season.  A lot will depend upon WHERE you are.  You'll feel Less impact in places like Cork city and Killarney, rather than smaller towns and villages.  Rural petrol stations might be problematical as well.

4 -- If weather IS good and you enjoy hiking, by all means -- Go for it!  Just be sure to wear water-proof shoes!   biggrin  biggrin

Welcome to the forum. I suppose it depends on where in the SW you plan to be. Good Friday is the day when many things are closed including some sightseeing venues, shops, pubs and some restaurants. Larger towns such as Killarney will have more things open. Smaller towns will have less to choose from. Sundays all around Ireland have many shops closed. Other than the GF closures pubs and restaurants should be open. Do note that Easter Sunday is a popular time for a large afternoon lunch with family. Good time to have reservations at a restaurant.

As for Skellig Michael, the trips are dependent on weather, winds and seas. You should probably contact the boat guys in advance to find out their schedules.
