We leave on our trip this Saturday, flying into Dublin and going to Kilkenny the first day and evening (side trip to Rock of Dunamse and pottery at Bennettsbridge). Day two drive to Doolin, via Loop Head and then up the coast. (Michele -- what is the best way to see Loop Head? I was there last year, but I think I didn't get off the beaten path enough!) Day three also in Doolin with day trip around Clare and to Cliffs (maybe a boat tour of cliffs if weather allows). Days 4-5 to Westport via Galway, Day 6 back to Dublin for the day and evening. Fly home noon the next day.
This is the first trip for our adult children to join us, so we are excited that the weather (fingers crossed) for next week looks tremendous right now. 50-plus degrees and virtually no chance of rain -- again, for now -- other than Sunday.
It's a short trip, but am excited my wife and I will be able to share our love of Ireland with our kids and their significant others. We are staying at places we have been to many times before, but in that way we know the best places for music, food, and fun.
A trip report will follow, as well as some photos. This will be my sixth trip to Ireland -- I appreciate being a part of this wonderful forum.
I'll tip a pint for you all!

6th trip! Soon you will catch up with me. Kilkenny to Doolin via Loop Head is a long drive. From Kilkee take the R487 south along the coast. It is a very scenic drive with The Bridges of Ross as a stop, many cliffs, sea stacks and sea arches. The road ends at the Loop Head Lighthouse. You can park there and walk all around the headland. If it is a nice day (and not windy) it is a lovely place for a picnic.
Have a wonderful trip with your wife and kids. Bon voyage and safe travels!
The Loop Head jaunt may wait until the second day in Doolin, but if the weather is splendid and we have the steam left, we might seize the moment and do Loop Head on the way. If not, it will be Doolin via Cahir and perhaps a stop at Quinn Abbey before we go across.
I learned long ago to be flexible with my plans there!

Got back last weekend. Still going through photos and notes and will do a trip report before long. A wonderful trip with not a single drop of rain and clear skies and 50-60 degree temperatures for part of the trip. That was incredible. Did a few things this time we hadn't done before that were certainly unique and worth sharing with the forum.
No rain indeed! It was a first ... that's for sure. I am a bit miffed that I have always -- before this trip -- driven past the Rock of Dunamase on my way from Dublin to Kilkenny. That is a spectacular thing to see and just a few miles out of the way. Tip of the cap to you and Bob for mentioning it. Certainly worth the brief side trip, as was Quin Abbey on the way to Ennis and Doolin. Both were free and really more interesting than things I have doled out money to see.

Welcome back! Glad you enjoyed the OTHER Rock. Michele's mention is what finally prompted ME to visit the site. Now, I can't believe how little visited it is -- particularly when it is JUST off the Motorway.
Sounds like you had GREAT weather. Can't wait to read your report and see the pix.

I consider the Rock of Dunamase a hidden gem. From a distance it does not look like much. But when you climb the hill and enter through the crumbling archways it is a wonderful setting. Another of Ireland's "rocks" but off the beaten path.
