I will be in Ireland at the end of March with a group of 10 (including myself). I would like to rent a van or minibus that would hold all of us plus our luggage. Does anyone know of a rental agency that specializes in larger vehicles?
I really think you will have to go to two vehicules. The largest minibus car rental companies rent are the VW Caravelle / Toyota Hiace which carries a max of 9 with a minimum of luggage. I rented a large Ford transport a few years back that held 9 but then there was almost no room for luggage. It was comfortable for 6 of us with luggage for 1 wk. Renting two cars gives you the added advantage of the group splitting up and doing things they might want to do. Plus you all can move around so that your all not stuck together tight (different personalities conflicting....) Read Bill "wojazz" report on his trip to give you an idea of the advantages of two or more cars.
Irrover is absolutely right about renting self-drive vehicles. Another option would be to hire a small coach and driver. Let me know if you would like any suggestions for that.
Yes, many cars, at least 3. It will save relationships. Plan on nobody following, everyone having maps and just telling them where you intend to end up. A caravan in Ireland is too dangerous. Make sure no one is armed and dangerous.
I read an interesting note somewhere and I believe it to be pretty accurate after my trip. For every person on your trip over two, add 15 minutes to the amount of time it takes you to get going in the morning. It is amazing how time got sucked up when we were trying to get out the door.
