Looking for a car/driver for a day outside of Galway

Hello - I will be traveling to Ireland at the end of this month (May) with my son and daughter-in-law. My grandparents are from the Galway area (Ballinrobe, Mayo and Pollsillagh, Galway) with Tuam being in the middle. There is about an hour driving distance between the places. I would like to take a little time to just go driving through the areas to see where my family was from and make a few stops in the areas. We will not have a car and it isn't "touristy" areas that have day trips set up. I have been trying to find something like that but have not been able to. Do you know of any companies that have a car/driver for off the beaten path areas? Thanks so much for your help. I am very excited about our trip!

Barbara

For personalized 'Day Trip' touring, what you are looking for is a taxi or Hackney Service.  Hackney service is generally less expensive than regular taxi.

You should Read THIS first:  http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/public_transport/charges_for_taxi_hackney_and_limosuine_services.html

I always self-drive, so have NO First Hand experience with any, but there are a NUMBER of Companies.

From a quick Google Search:

http://www.galway.net/about/transport/taxi.html

http://www.tuam-guide.com/hackney.htm

http://www.goldenpages.ie/cara-cabs-galway-city/

http://www.whoseview.ie/business/Claddagh-Hackney-Cabs-Galway-City-Galway-141713.html

Perhaps your Accommodations Host can recommend one, based upon Local reputation?

Try Kevin Mullins for a 1/2 day price, he is based in Corofin so about 4 miles from the Pollsillagh townland (drive through there going up from Athenry). Getting up to Tuam and back by bus is straightforward.

Thank you both for your input. The word hackney is new to me and when I would do searches, bus tour companies is what would come up.

Thanks again,
