Dooley at Shannon Airport


I thought starting a new thread on this topic might be useful, since some questions came up about the Dooley desk in the Kenmare 2014 thread that's been running for a while.

There is a conspicuous lack of Dooley signage at the airport these days & my recollection from a previous trip was that Dooley had a desk at the airport -- I knew that a fairly recent change meant that the car pick up required getting on a shuttle, just as it does for the other agencies.  Here are the e-mail instructions that I received from Dooley's NJ office (they came to late for me, because they arrived the day before we left & we had already headed out for the airport):

Here are Car Rental instructions for your arrival at Dooley Car Rentals,
Shannon Airport.

When you exit the baggage hall you should proceed directly to Desk
Number 7 in the arrivals hall where you will be directed to your rental
vehicle.

I'm not sure the instructions would have made much sense, anyway, though they (sort of) do in retrospect.  The van that takes you to the car pick up has a sign on the rear --  the number 7 surrounded in a block outline.

Upon arrival, I asked where the Dooley counter was at the airport information counter, but they weren't that clear & I walked up to the Sceptre desk, which happened to be the right one to call the 7 van that takes you to the pick up station.  Yesterday, before we started through the departure process, I went back to visit the same gent who helped us on arrival, and he told me that I was not imagining the lack of Dooley brand signage, and that his station was indeed the 7/Sceptre desk.  On the way to the rental return area, we also noted the lack of Dooley signs, but recognized where to go.  I think Sceptre and Dooley have a partnership for self-drive B&B packages, which may be suggestive of a reason for the current set up, but I really don't know why the Dooley brand presence has changed at Shannon.

Thanks for the clarification.

I wonder if it is only Dooley that has moved their desk out to the lot/depot? confuse  confuse

It kind of makes sense, though.  The shared desk used to collect a LARGE crowd as people coming off the planes queued up to collect their rental cars.

Sometimes, the line would extend back -- almost to the entrance to the Top Shop!

Seems a pity that the Airport hasn't invested in Signage -- though, Dublin Airport hasn't felt the need, either! 

I'll be at Shannon on 19 June to collect my son and grandson, so I will see if anything has changed / improved by then!  hmm

I'm in there tomorrow week will take a look,, been in Limerick today if I'd seen this sooner.. The whole arrangement in and outside Shannon terminal has been reconfigured this year.

Just got an email from Corey (IrishFireside.com) saying that the Dooley desk is gone. He just arrived in Ireland a couple of days ago.

This is what he was told: "Go to the Septre Tours desk marked "7" and the person there checks for their name on a list and sends them to the shuttle." Their lot has a tiny sign.
