My husband and I are going to Ireland for the month of September. We have a few places that we know we would like to see but I want to know places that I shouldn't miss. We would like to stay in some smaller towns, Although I think my husband would stay in a pub most of the time LOL. We fly into Dublin and would like to start in the north and then go west. What would you recommend?
Jackie, Welcome to the forum. Do you have the whole month of September to visit Ireland or just a portion? You can see a lot in a month. Why don't you tell us what your interests are and any tentative itinerary you might have in mind. Since you want to go north I would not miss the Antrim Coast, Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Dunluce Castle, Dark Hedges, Toor Road. I also like Co. Down and the Ards Peninsula (Mount Stewart House & Gardens) as well as the Co. Fermanagh area.
Give us some more info and we will be happy to help with suggestions for your trip. And there are plenty of pubs for your husband wherever you go!
We are there Sept 3-30. We are staying in Clondarf castle for the first two nights and Thomastown 20/21 after picking up friends and then we have reservations near Galway during the Oyster festival on 25/26 Those are the only reservations we have made. We would like to stay in a central location for a few days at a time so that we are not constantly changing lodging. We aren't looking for 5 star accommodations, comfortable clean and friendly is all we really require. Small B&B's are great as well.
I want to see the countryside, Cliffs, castles, small town life. I would probably avoid bigger cities although we will be going to Dublin. I've read about a few of the places that you mentioned but I'm going to have to look up a few of them.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is a trip that I have always wanted to take.
Thank you,
Jackie
