Checking In

Day 1

A full trip report when we get back, so will just give highlights of the day

1st full day in Ireland:  weather light rain mostly with brief periods of moderate showers. Rain coat day but still happy to be here.

1st stop Limerick Tesco to top up phone & mifi

navigating without GPScry

2nd stop Donkey Sanctuary. A REAL BIG hit with GD!

3rd stop Kanturk Castle.  She liked this too. Had to have her picture taken in every door/arch way!

4th stop Dromtarriff Parish (St John's Catholic Church) where her  GGG Grandfather was Baptized

Got to Blarney by 4pm so stopped at Blarney Castle till close.

Dan

Best time to see Blarney, after 4pm.. Has the GD been more chatty today after snogging the rock?

Perfect Christmas Present --- Adopt a DS Donkey for her?

You are not kidding me.. you must be old enough to know how to drive a --> b without something (apart from the wife!) telling you where to go...

We loved the donkeys - especially the little brown baby...she was only 2 weeks old when we were there!

Tony, much rather listen to GPS than DW! ( when navigating Ireland...that is. I had Better be careful here.... GD didn't snog. Got scared... Of the heights I think. Plenty chatty ALL the time so not really needed! We looked high and low for the baby donkeys but the were inside due to the rain....they said. Dan

Day 2
Brilliant sunshine day!!! Walked a few blocks to Blarney Woolen Mills. GD did much shopping for friends, classmates, teacher, family etc

B&B host suggested "Maplin" an electronics store for GPS help. In shopping center on way to Fota. No UK SD cards so purchased a Garnin Nuvi with lifetime updates (just might use it here a few, or many more times!)

Life on the road is much better now!

Fota wildlife park a huge hit, over 3 hours spent!

A few more miles to Cobh. Visited the harbor and dock area

On toward Kinsale. Charles Fort another great stop. She likes old buildings!

Back to Blarney for 6:30 Mass

Back to Muskerry Arms for evening meal

2nd night at White House B&B

Day 4
Off and on showers all day...not too miserable as they were short lived!
First ferry to Garnish Island. Beautiful!
Drove around Mizen Head Peninsula. Took the bridge and numerous steps out to the light house
Drove around Sheep's Head Peninsula and to the signal light also. Very tiny roads on North side returning to Glengarriff. Fun day but lots of driving!
Yummy dinner at Caseys Hotel Restaurant

You are totally correct there Dan!

Even a terrible stormy day in Ireland is better than the best day at home!

Tony/Bob. Yes slept in, that's what you are suppose to do on Holiday! Something I rarely do, on Holiday or not! Michele; breakfast at the castle was just as wonderful as all the rest of the experience!

Day 14: uneventful trip home. Would probably try to avoid London next time. However we did like the long first leg from West coast to Europe continent followed by the short hop to Ireland. The SEA-Iceland-DUB route might be tempting in the future.....yes....already thinking about the next time!
