Was good to get home and GD (and us) re-adjusted. Friday her Dad and the 3 of us poured thru approximately 2,500 pictures and narrowed it down to about 500. Then Sunday we selected about 125 pictures. Tough job but worth it. Then GD did her 35 minute power point presentation to her classroom yesterday. It went well! I was Amazed that twenty five 4th and 5th graders sat there in rapt attention, very tuned in to what was being said and shown during the presentation. Every student got a book mark from Ireland from GD. I Also had put all of the Euro coins and a five, ten, twenty, and fifty Euro note in a plastic sleeve along with the dollar to Euro conversion rate math formula AND the decimal equivalent for all the coins! to pass around (they are studying decimals!). She also passed around her toy soldier figure that she made at Prince August Toy Soldier Factory. Also had a couple of pictures of signs that had the year the ruin was built, and the teacher wanted them to figure out how old the ruin was, using "mental math" as well as to point out to the students how "young" the US really is compared to Europe. So we tried to maximize the educational value of the trip. I think we were somewhat successful. Guess what? She is ready to go back!!! We have another "Ireland Addict" on our hands!
Regards
Dan
How wonderful that your GD was able to use her Ireland experience as a teaching tool for her classmates.
So, another young "Ireland Addict", well now you have gone and done it, welcome to the club. My GD is now 18 and waiting for us to take her on her 4th trip back to Ireland. It will never end you know.
Kind of late replying, but think we do have an new Ireland addict on our hands! She is ready to go back! She thinks we will go this fall, but GM explained that we usually go every other year....
We have returned to WA for one week (from wintering in AZ) to spend Christmas with the family. Discovered how easy it is to get photos printed for Christmas cards from Apple products, so took my iPhone in to the 1 hour photo Fujifilm kiosk at Wallyworld! We had taken several "selfies" of us three in Ireland with the idea of making one of them into a Christmas card. Had a real good photo of us during the 3 mile top of cliff walk, and the Cliffs of Moher did make a great backdrop for this photo. Mailed out 50 of them today...a little late, but hopefully family and friends won't mind!
Also wanted to let you know that I have started posting details of the trip over on the "trip report" section of this web sight.
Would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and the best in 2015! And hopefully a trip back to Ireland for some of you!
