Hello. We are planning a three week visit in May. Might you help me with some basic information? Our whole family, including my fourteen year old twins, love traditional music. Are children allowed to attend music and dance sessions in pubs?
Children under 18 are not allowed in pubs after 10 pm from May - Sept or 9 pm at other times of the year. Since most music starts well after 9 pm it is probable that your kids will not be able to stay in the pubs. Instead I suggest they attend the Bunratty Traditional Irish Night Ceili, Bru Boru, or another venue where there is music and dance.
Ooooh...I had a feeling you were going to say that. We will certainly attend the Bru Boru show. My husband and I did so a few years ago and thought it was wonderful. Thank you for the information.
I belive they are getting much more strict on that though my 16 yo nephew had no problem in pubs outside of Dublin last May. Country pubs tend to be more lenient there. You can also consider Galway where, along the walking mall, there are at least two pubs that do a couple of sets starting around 5 or 5:30 in the evening.
When we visited Dingle, with our kids, ages 8/11, we usually had a late dinner, as a result we were still eating when the traditional music started. This was at Moriarty's. We did the same thing in Doolin. We were able to enjoy the music over desert.
It is really not a good idea to leave your kids at a B&B unattended. What if there is an emergency or they suddenly get sick? Many B&Bs have babysitting services so you should inquire about that.
Glad to hear you were just kidding. Believe it or not many parents do just that. I have had quite a few B&B owners tell me about children left on their own. Many of them get up to mischief while alone and the owners then must contend with the situation.
