I am planning my second trip to Ireland. This time we are taking my daughters who each have two-year-olds. I am trying to figure out how to plan for car seats, strollers, etc.
We will be staying ten days With most of them in Dublin with a few day trips. We will be using mostly public transportation and walking during our trip.
Any advice on kid friendly hotels would also be appreciated. During our trip in 2013 we stayed at the Ashling Hotel.
Having flown with a two year old, we attached the car seat to the airline seat while flying, which was more comfortable for sleeping on the flight. The stroller was checked at the gate and available upon exiting the aircraft. Check with your airlines for their procedure. Also, request child meals by calling the airlines before the flight.
For day trips on private buses check with the company if there is an age restriction on day trip tours. With public transportation there will be no age restrictions.
Ireland is very kid friendly, so I don't believe there will be any unfriendly kid hotels. However, if you are staying mostly in one area, Dublin for example, you may want to look into renting a house or apartment with 2 or 3 bedrooms. It would be less expensive and more comfortable for your family. Some places will only rent on a weekly basis, but we have in the past paid for a week and only used the rental for 5 days, which was less expensive than 5 days in a hotel.
We are planning September of 2016 ( I'm getting a head start and very excited) and there will be 5adults and two children. Our budget including airfare is between 2000-2500 each. We are planning on staying 9 nights, but possibly more depending on cost.
I really liked the convenience of the Ashling being close to Heuston Station and transportation on our last trip. But, we love to walk and are open to any ideas.
Thank you
