Tickets booked!

Greetings to all,

Now that we are all booked, I would like some input on what we should see with Ballyshannon as our home base in the West.  We will be there in early September.  I will be accompanied by my 2 daughters and their husbands.  I have thought about Sligo and possibly Slieve League, but I am open to any suggestions you have.  We will be taking the train from Dublin to Galway, then renting a car to drive to Donegal.  Bob, have you any advice on what sort of car we need for 6 adults?  Does such a car exist in Ireland?  LOL  maybe we should get 2 compacts?

My family will be leaving from Shannon to come home, but I will stay on for a bit.  We will have about 3 or 4 days together in Ballyshannon.

Thanks!

Marie

Marie -- Two compacts might be cheaper and easier.  A comfortable car for six adults (AND Luggage) would be a VW Caravelle or similar and they tend to be PRICEY.  Even without luggage, the 7 passenger vehicles (typically a Ford Galaxy) use 'jump seats' for the two rear-most seats and they aren't particularly easy to access -- or comfortable to ride any distance in.

Are you leaving for SNN with them (and moving on -- to Dublin)?  Or, are you staying on, in Ballyshannon?  Enroute to SNN is Knock and several other interesting sites . . .

With a Ballyshannon base, you should have LOTS of options -- Slieve League Cliffs, Donegal town, Sligo, Beleek, Lower Lough Erne (Boa Island, Enniskillen, White Island, Devenish and numerous 'Plantation' Castles), and the Ulster-American Folk Park are all possibilities.

They have a GREAT teahouse!  biggrin  biggrin
