If you smell turf in the house, the turfs still wet or chimneys blocked Turf does burn clean and not leave much ash, you notice the word Clean rather than efficient because there's not much heat from a turf fire. You will need Kindling as well because the briquettes take some lighting.. perhaps the best bet is one of those "firelogs" just light and leave.
Why the question?

A few of the neighbours have their own Turf pitch's so cut, foot and burn that but always alongside timber and a small amount of coal if it gets really cold. We use wood and coal. The only folk round here that use Briquettes are one family who use them in a very old stove they have in a small office because they don't burn too hot. Maybe slightly swayed by being surrounded by a few hundred sq miles of managed forestry..

We tried the turf in a fireplace, but all the lovely scent went up the chimney. Since we only wanted the scent of a turf fire and not heat producing, we now only burn the turf in an outdoor pot belly type stove on the patio. The turf briquettes along with a 5" X 2" fire starter log and we enjoy the scent of a turf fire all summer long. Only need to clean out the stove a couple of times during the summer.
We purchase the turf briquettes from Ireland Earth. One or two boxes each summer.
