Heatons Castlewood) or Greenmount?

Hi, I know this question has been asked before, but we are looking to spend 2 nights in Dingle this summer at either Castlwood or Greenmount.  Location is not important, but look of the properties, warmth, Irish feel, view, breakfast look of the rooms does matter.  Any comments from anyone?

Thanks,

Paul

paulros,

I assume that you have looked at the websites to see the way the rooms look, etc.? I will comment on Heaton's since I have stayed there. The rooms are modern in decor as the photos on their website show. They are also very comfortable and clean. Cameron and Nuala are friendly hosts and they are Irish. Their daughter Jackie is the chef and she prepares decadently delicious breakfasts. I believe they have a menu online. There is a lovely sitting room off the lobby with an open fire in cool weather and views of Dingle Bay. They have two dining rooms; one is formal and the other is in an adjacent sunroom.

Castlewood is run by the Heaton's son and daughter-in-law. It was still under construction when I was in Dingle last spring so I could not view it. If you want to wait a couple of months I will give you the lowdown on it after this year's spring visit.

I haven't been to Greenmount but I hear that it has recently been completely refurbished. Perhaps someone else that has stayed there will comment on it.

If you are up for a splurge I highly recommend Emlagh House. It meets all your requirements and is superb.

Thank you, Michelle.  I should've mentioned that we're taken our 12 and 9 yr. old.  Emlagh House doesn't have a family room so we'd have to get 2 rooms.  Unfortunately this is out of our price range.  Thanks for the suggestion.  Love your website.

Paul,

Always happy to add my "two cents worth". Yes, Emlagh House is not for everyone. However nearby is Emlagh Lodge a small B&B overlooking the harbor that is very cute.

paulros - We are staying at Castlewood this summer for 2 nights. We have kids about the same ages as yours so we got a "family" room there. It's a splurge for us. I thought it was too expensive, so do hope we made a good choice. Opted for it because it will be MY birthday one of the days we'll be there, so it will be a fun memory. Please share any kid friendly places or lodgings you discover in your planning! I love the forum here, but it definitely caters to those W/ OUT young kids imho.

Hi Irish Eyes,

Nice to hear from you.  I just started researching our tripo and I'm very excited, but I am a little worried about our kids being bored.  I guess they're typical in that they can only take but so much sightseeing.  I did find a go cart park and waterslide park for them, just in case.  We're also going to do a Dolphin trip in Dingle.  We're only going to be in Ireland for 5 days and then 4 in the UK.  I still haven't decided on Heaton's vs. Castlewood.  I hear great things about both.  Any other suggestions?  Where do you live?  Keep in touch.

Paulros - Where is the water slide and go -cart place? Sounds like fun for the kids. The kids will enjoy the dolphin too. We're hoping they like the castles and seeing the home of their ancestors. I think those folk parks would be ideal for kids too.

We are from S. Calfornia.
