best routes in Ireland

Hi,

Myself and a few others will be arriving in Dublin on July 28th.  We are staying in Dublin July 28th and 29th.  The we do not know if we will rent a car or take a rail or bus tour.  We would like to see The Ring of Kerry, the Cliffs of Moher, and Dingle Peninsula.  We would also be interested in festivals such as the Waterford City parade on July 31, Feile na Mara in Achill, County Kerry Carhersivean festival which goes from July 29th through July 31st, and/or the Inishbiggle Festival in Achill which goes from July 30 to August 1.  We plan on stopping in Galway and Achill for a few days each as well to visit and stay with family.  We need to be at the airport in Shannon at night on August 7th for our flight.  Will you please make any recommendations possible for our best travel options?  I am having a hard time figuring out which travel routes are best.  None of us can drive a manual car and would prefer to use rail or bus tours where any rugged terrain would be since we are not familiar with driving the roads of Ireland.  Thank you!

Welcome to the forum. After Dublin you have approximately a week in which to travel around the country. First, you need to decide how you will travel. If you go to my transport page I have links to public transportation in Ireland. Take a look and see what you think.

You mention there are a few of you traveling together. In that case renting a car and splitting the cost might actually cost less than public transport. Do a price check comparison to see.

Several places you mention are off the beaten track for using public transport efficiently. In that case a car will be needed. You can rent automatics in Ireland. A GPS (or SatNav as it is called in Ireland) might also give you peace of mind.

Once you decide on mode of transportation you should get your itinerary and reservations in place. You are traveling during "the season" and it will be busy. Plus if you need special room configurations with your "few" travel companions it is best to book as far in advance as possible.

Once you have some decisions made and can give us more info we will be happy to help with more specific recommendations.
