We are planning a stop in Limerick City on arrival day, to get a SIM card and top up my Irish Cell phone. I see there is a Tesco in the Arthurs Quay shopping center downtown. Do ALL Tescos have SIM cards for purchase and this one in particular? We want to visit St Mary's Cathedral and King Johns Castle. All three of these appear to be in a 5-6 block area, after looking at a Google map. There is parking at Tesco, however parking at the cathedral and castle is a question. Can anyone advise on the parking situation or should we plan to leave the van parked at Tesco and then to proceed on foot, and is this a reasonable walking distance?
Dan
If you are driving in to Limerick (rather than take the Tunnel route), there is a big Tesco in Knockhill.
I mention this because that exit always 'sneaks up' on me!
Immediately after exiting the N18 onto the R445 is a large roundabout that you take the 2nd exit (straight through). Continuing on the R445, you pass through two small roundabouts. At the next (a big one), take the first exit and the Tesco is on your left.
When you exit the Tesco, return to the roundabout and take the first exit, to continue into Limerick on the R445. At the next Big intersection (Clonmacken Road), take a Left and follow it to the roundabout at Cratloe Road. Take the 3rd exit and follow it (Cratloe Rd) (it changes names 2 or 3 times) until you see the bridge over the river. King John's Castle will be visible, on your right.
Type "Tesco Limerick" into Google and it will give you a visual map!

I believe we stopped at the big Tesco you have described, in the 2014 trip with our GD. Got the mify and mobile phone "up and running" that time too. Not sure if I will take the mify this time or just rely 100% on wifi?
We will plan to use the Coonagh Cross Tesco. (If we decide to take the East route first instead of West route (I will expound in the "Adare post")
Isn't Tesco a great store? I call it the "Wally World" Ireland version! In your link, Michele, I see that Tesco offers on line, a plan with unlimited calls, unlimited text, and unlimited data for 25 Euros a month! Since we will be there 4 weeks.....maybe????
My little flip phone doesn't utilize data, is not as user friendly for texting as my iPhone, however the unlimited calls is enticing! During previous 2 week trips, I started with 10 Euro top up and then usually an additional 10 Euros, so maybe this is my best option
I will need to research and see if this 25 Euro plan is only available on line or if we can walk in and get it. Also not sure if I were to order it this weekend for Monday processing/shipping, that it will arrive in time since we are 2 weeks and 2 days....and counting!!!!!
