Itinerary

Hi everyone!

My husband and I will be taking our first trip to Ireland the first of April.  Our stay-overs are as follows:  Land & stay in Dublin - 2 nights; Kinsale - 1 night; Killarney - 2 nights; Galway - 3 nights; home from Shannon.  We will also be spending at least part of a day in Limerick to visit with friends of our sister-in-law.  We are looking for opinions as to what everyone feels are the 'must sees or do-s' and 'can skip seeing or doing' along or within reasonable distances of our route.  We are definitely interested in experiencing several of the typical 'touristy' activities, but also want plenty of 'down time' to simply soak in and enjoy the beauty of Ireland.  Any advice, opinions, etc. is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!  Sadie & Sam

Sadie & Sam,

With your schedule I don't think you will have a lot of "down time". You are covering a pretty large area in 8 days. Had you thought of spending your last night in the Limerick area? That would give you the opportunity to visit with friends, perhaps have dinner with them and then depart the next day from Shannon. Generally, when you go all that way to see friends just a few hours is not enough.

Do you have a book about Ireland? If so, then you have a general idea of what you want to see and do. What sorts of things are of interest to you?

Hi Michele!

Thanks for the reply.  We did think about spending our last night in the Limerick area and still might do that, depending on whether we meet up with people in Galway on the day of our last stay-over.  We do have a couple of Ireland travel books and have come across several of the typical tourist attractions that we would like to consider; however, we are aware that we will be working within a limited timeframe and don't want to cram too much in - only some of the 'must sees'.  Some of the things / places of interest to us include various nature formations, churches, pubs, traditional irish music, and castles to name a few.

Thanks!  Sadie & Sam

Sadie & Sam,

Why don't you list what you want to see an I will tell you if you have enough time to do them? Also take a look at my Ireland Top 10 List on my "Sightseeing" page.

Hi Michele!

The areas and/or sights that we are interested in visiting are: Cliffs of Moher, Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, Cashel, Connemara, Cork, Blarney, & Limerick.  While we fully realize that we will likely not have time to see and/or truly experience all of the above, any advise regarding a possible timeline that might include all or most would be greatly appreciated.  We are also seeking input regarding anything mentioned above that might not be worth our time or effort (especially if at the expense of some of the others) and, of course, are open to other suggestions, as well.

Thanks so much, Sadie & Sam

Sadie & Sam,

The other info you supplied is of great help when also looking at your proposed itinerary. If after Dublin you overnighted in Cashel or Cahir and skipped Kinsale you would have the opportunity to see Cashel, Cahir Castle & the Swiss Cottage. Skip Cork (big city) and Blarney. You will not have time for both Dingle and the ROK. Choose only one. You could fit in the Cliffs of Moher on the drive to Galway (take the car ferry across the Shannon). You can do Connemara from Galway.
