I haven't booked any accommodations yet, but this looks like our itinerary so far.
Two nights Dublin, one night Waterford, two nights Kenmare, two nights Bunratty. We will see what we can in that timeline.
Just trying to figure out a route from Waterford to Kenmare. Should we go straight across through Mallow etc. or, more south through Cork. What do you think?
I wouldn't go through Cork. It's a very confusing city to get around or through. Honestly, I'm not sure with you itinerary, I would go to Waterford. I think I would head to Cashel or Cahir and make the next day a bit more easier to Kenmare. If you have some deep desire to see Waterford crystal being made, then you can go there. There are certainly no deals at the Waterford factory. Otherwise, with only one day there and a reasonably long drive the next day, there is not much to see in Waterford itself.
You might want to try to fit Dingle into the picture.
The others are right. Cork is very confusing. It is like a black hole that sucks you in and won't let go. If you must overnight in Waterford you could drive through Cahir (see the castle) and on through Mallow to continue on to Kenmare.
I also agree with Bill about overnighting in Cashel or Cahir instead of Waterford.
Thanks very much for the feedback. We'll make a point of avoid Cork. Going to Waterford wasn't really my idea, but that's the way it has to be. I hope we can see Cashel on the way to Kenmare if we take the route through Mallow.
Thanks again. I'm in the process of booking accommodation. Bunratty is already getting full!!
