When we leave the Galway area we'd like to stop at the Cliffs of Moher, then continue on to Killarney. What makes more sense? Taking the direct (inland) route or the scenic (coastal) route? Is there much of a time difference? Either way I assume we should plan to take the Shannon Ferry as opposed to driving even further inland through Limerick?
Also, when travelling from Killarney to Cork, I assume the coastal route would add considerable time, although I'm sure it would be beautiful. Anyone know the time difference between the direct and scenic route?
From Galway to Killarney, I would take the coastal route and the ferry. You will already be on the coast of Clare. The cliffs are near Lahinch. If you go inland through Ennis and Limerick there will be more traffic, etc.
The coastal route from Killarney to Cork can take all day. There are interesting things to stop at along the way such as Ilnacullin Gardens, Bantry House & Gardens, little villages, etc. The road is also smaller and winding along the coastline. You won't get into Kinsale till late afternoon or evening. If you take the main road it is about 2 hours to Cork City.
