Dublin accommodations

On May 19th there is a concert in Dublin and the hotels are outrageously priced- 309 Euros for one night at the Gibson Hotel. Although we have a car, we would be willing to take the train to stay a little further away from Dublin to get a moderately priced  b$b or somewhere reasonable in Dublin. there are just two of us, my husband and I -  Any suggestions?

If you have a car, then I wouldn't stay in Dublin -- particularly if some event is taking place.

Speaking from personal experience:

In the past, I've stayed at the Premier Inn Dublin Airport.  The have free parking and are located close to the #41 Dublin Bus stop and the Swords Express Bus stops right in front of the hotel.  A test booking for 19 May shows a two-night minimum at a total price of 170 Euro (prepaid).

I've also stayed in Bray a couple of times.  You can take the DART into the city from there.

The Esplanade Hotel is nice enough. They're quoting $200 for 19 May:  http://www.esplanadehotel.ie/

We've also stayed at the Old Rectory B&B and found it pleasant (if a bit difficult to locate originally):

How about Malahide? Try Beechwood Country House there.

We stayed at Beechwwod last trip in Malahide, I had already contacted Terry and he will be away on vacation
5-16/5-28.
I've looked into a couple of air bnb' ...I've used them often in the states but never in Europe. A 15 minute bus ride from Dublin offers a detached private bedroom- private bath and king sized bed...and free parking for our car. I'm thinking perhaps...55 euros seems like a steal - I imagine it's just like using air bnb in the states.Have you heard of anyone's experiences?

Is air bnb something one avoids in Ireland? Hotels and bnb's in Dublin all full for the one night I need ....

On may 18th in Dublin, you are facing a quadruple 'whammy'!

1) It's a Friday.  Weekends are always tough in Dublin.

2) Don McLean is playing three nights at Vicars Street, starting on the 20th

3) Bryan Adams starts two nights at the 3Arena beginning 21 May

4) Ed Sheeran is playing two (undoubtedly) sold out concerts at Phoenix Park on 18 & 19 May.

You may need to move a ways out from the city.  hmm  hmm
