what would you do if you had 14days in Ireland

I wanted to get the opion of the people on this forum as to the top ten things to see in Ireland. I know that is a loaded question, because what might be intersting to one person may not be intersting to another. I will have two weeks to explore Ireland and from what I have read posted here is that you can not do it all in one trip ( darn another trip to ireland). I will be flying into Shannon and will be spending most of my time in the western part of Ireland and the middle contries. What I would like to do is spend two nights in most spots and branch out from there for day explorations. I want to go to Cashel and spend at least one and maybe two days in that area. My trip is stil far in the future, but I wanted to start planning it now. I will have a car so getting around will not be a problem. Thanks for all your help and answers Matt

Matt,

It sounds like you have a good grasp of how to plan your itinerary for Ireland. Spending a couple of nights in many areas is a good idea. You can always sprinkle in a few one-night stays if they make sense for the flow of your journey. With two weeks you can see a good bit of Ireland although not all.

Take a look at my "Sightseeing" page for my Ireland Top 10 List. It will give you some ideas. Your observations is right about having a top 10 list. Not everyone is interested in the major sights. I had to provide a list because I am continually asked for one. So take it with a grain of salt.

Matt, my Top Ten would only be possible on the Green Blur Tour, but here they are, in no particular order:

1. Coole Park and Thoor Ballylee, and a boat trip to the Lake Isle of Innisfree
2. The drive over Conor Pass
3. Glencar Lake and waterfall, Killary Harbour and the subsequent drive into Connemara.
4. Spending a night in Waterford Castle on its own private island in the River Suir.
5. Hill of Tara and Newgrange
6. The hop-on-hop-off tour of Dublin, and walking up O'Connell Street
7. Torc Waterfall and Ladies' View
8. Cahir Castle and the Rock of Cashel
9. The wild drive up into the Bricklieve Mountains and the view from the passage graves
10.Lough Key Forest Park
11. Riding the cable car out to Dursey Island in the wind and rain

Okay, I know that's not 10 (even without my calculator I can do that math in my head) but I didn't know what to leave out.

Each time I go I think it may be my last trip so I try to cram too much in, but I keep getting to go back and see some things I missed.

By the way, I'll attach a picture my daughter took of the copper beech Autograph Tree at Coole Park. I'm having it enlarged to poster size to hang in my newly painted green bathroom.

From my limited time in Ireland, I would say that this was my top ten things I enjoyed.

1. Galway City. Totally fell in love with the whole city !

2. Westport. You must have a pint in Matt Molloys, but the food, shopping and scenery is great !

3. Arran Islands. Hopefully the weather is good if you go.

4. Connemara and the Burren

5. Donegal City

6. Ashford Castle and Cong

7. Oughterard

8. Ballina

9. The Rosse's

10. Carrowmore

Cheers!
