Maybe a stay in the Blessington / Hollywood area, on the Dublin side of the Wicklow Gap?

I've stayed in Bray a few times -- Not a lot of forest, but the beach and Cliff Walk might appeal?

Malahide. It is a lovely village not far from the airport. You can visit Malahide Castle and gardens or stroll along the beach overlooking the Irish Sea.

Thanks to you both, Malahide looks to be a good choice. It's real close to the airport so I'm less likely to get antsy with my brain thinking about traffic issues on the M50.

Youghal and Enniscorthy, I've never been to either, but they both appear to have plenty to do; nice smaller towns? Do you concur?

My original thought was to head to Clonakilty after Cork for 2 nights. I could catch trad music @ same spots I did last May, @ DeBarra's and O'Donovan's. I just wasn't looking forward to the drive back to Dublin from there...seems like I've hit Cashel and Cahir enough, maybe time to check out a new place or two.

Went to the Milwaukee Irish fest about 10 days ago (great time btw)...$240 for the cheapest plane tickets, Syracuse to Milwaukee. The fact that you can fly over to Ireland for $300 from the east coast amazes me.

Bob- I looked back, and you recommended DeBarra's, so thanks.
Also, I did stop in Baltimore, it is a nice little town. I'd like to go out to the Skerrig's (sp) at some point. I visited the castle, and that is a phenomenal renovation. There was only one other visitor, and the owners were great answering questions. It will be a definite place to return to some day.

FYI: Sherkin and Cape Clear Island is visited from Baltimore. http://www.baltimore.ie/islands

Some personal favorites: The Copper Coast Drive, ALL of Hook Head, between New Ross and Wexford town, Glendalough (of course), the Wicklow Gap and Hollywood / Russborough House, the Military Road, Sally Gap, Powerscourt -- and, alternately, Kilkenny city . . .

SO much to see! SO little time! hmm hmm

This is a nice B&B in Malahide: Beechwood. The owner Joe is a great character. biggrin Skerrigs? Two islands for the price of one!

The more I thought about DeBarra's and O'Donovans, I decided I would head back to Clonakilty for 2 nights after Cork. The fact that I'll be there Mon and Tues nights, so I can catch both of the same sessions as I did back in May, won me over. I'll probably stay @ O'Donovan's. If the weather is good, I'll go over SHERKIN via the ferry on my full day in Clon.

Spike Island isn't open during the week, starting 1 Oct. Glad I saw that, so I can still go Sunday. I won't have the car yet so can take the train to Cobh from Cork, I'm booked right next to Kent station.

From Clonakilty I'm thinking of Youghall for the 5th night, then drive up to
the Glenview Hotel in Delgany. I thought that since I now had a longer drive, being on the south side of Dublin would help...I did check Malahide and Blessington, not a ton left available this late, so Delgany it is.
