Trip to Dublin with day trips..

Hello all. I'm interested in a possible Dublin trip in 1 to 1.5 years from now. Wondering if anyone can recommend a handicap accessible hotel in Dublin. I don't use a wheelchair but I am a slow walker. I will stay for 8-9 days total.

I am hoping to do about 3 escorted tours in the area. No driving for me on this trip. I would love to visit Giant's Causeway. Open to suggestions for other one day or half day tours. Would love to visit a historic castle. What are some of your favorite one-day escorted tours from Dublin? Thank you

Welcome to Michele's Forum!

Most of us here are Self-Drive type of visitors, but there are a number of excellent day tour operators based in Dublin.

Newgrange and Hill of Tara: Newgrange Tours By Mary Gibbons | Newgrange Bus Tours

Glendalough and Wicklow Mountains:  Dublin to Wicklow Day Tour | Wild Wicklow Tours

Giant's Causeway:  The Giants Causeway & Glens of Antrim Day Tour | Tour of Ulster with Railtours Ireland First Class - Visit Game of Thrones Location on this Tour.

There are numerous other Giant's Causeway options (primarily Bus Tours) that add additional sites (Dark Hedges, Carrick-a-Rede Bridge, etc.), but they would involve a fair bit of walking.  ALL tours begin around 7 AM and return to Dublin between 8 and 10 PM.

There are PLENTY of additional day tour options, depending upon your budget and interests:

THE 10 BEST Day Trips from Dublin 2021 (With Photos) - Tripadvisor

You don't mention a budget for your Hotel stay, so there are a vast number of possible choices.  Best advice is to verify that there is a lift (elevator) and close proximity to the LUAS (Dublin's Light Rail, Tram system).

I will add my welcome as well. Most of the Dublin hotels will have lifts (elevators) but inquire before booking to be sure. Some of the older or smaller ones may not have the facilities you are looking for.

Glendalough is beautiful and well worth seeing. However, there is a fair bit of walking involved and some uneven ground to traverse especially in the cemetery area. In the general area a couple of other things worth seeing are Powerscourt & Russborough House. There are many tours that include both Powerscourt & Glendalough. Here is one: https://www.dublinsightseeing.ie/southcoast-tour

For ancient history Newgrange is a must. Bob has given you a link for that.

Let us know if you need other suggestions and if we can help more as your planning proceeds.

Thanks for your replies. 2 bus trips I am most interested in are Giant's Causeway with Carrick-a-Rede bridge crossing; The second being a bus trip to Waterford crystal factory and free time in Kilkenny. I think I would really like to tour Kilkenny Castle.

I will continue researching Dublin hotels. Greg

Options for the two tours you specifically mentioned are available via  www.railtoursireland.com Primary transport is via train, with local transport provided.

Kilkenny / Waterford -- Day tour to Waterford Crystal, Kilkenny City & the Suir Valley - Railtours Ireland First Class

This tour begins and ends at Dublin Heuston Station

Giant's Causeway --  The Giants Causeway & Glens of Antrim Day Tour | Tour of Ulster with Railtours Ireland First Class - Visit Game of Thrones Location on this Tour.

Train is from Dublin to Belfast, then via bus from there.

This tour begins and ends at Dublin Connolly Station.

BOTH require you to be at the respective station at or before 7 AM and return you around 8 PM (Kilkenny / Waterford) and 10 PM (Giant's Causeway).

If you book both -- or, ANY TWO Day Tours, you are awarded a FREE, 48 hour Hop On / Hop Off Dublin City ticket.

There ARE other options as well, of course, including -- if price is NO object -- Chauffeur-driven, luxury Private Tours!
