Michele (or really anyone can probably answer this)
We got airfare and a car for the 12-13 days we plan on spending in Ireland. Flying in and out of Dublin. We got a book...not yours Michele but now I know it exists i will get one asap, anyway we picked out some things we would like to see but to keep this post small my plan was to book 2-3 B&Bs on the island and use them as a leaping off point each night returning to them until we have seen everything we wanted to see and then moving to the next B&B and repeating the idea....
Am I crazy? Am I being to Simplistic
One big suggestion I need is for locations in Cork to stay. We both like B&Bs and I think the more immersive in local flavor the better....any suggestions?
I bought your book just now. We are both excited to go.
It's certainly a good idea to pick places to nest for a while. From the number of days it looks like you would be staying 3-5 days in each spot depending on how you divide it up. Remember that traveling is slow in Ireland so you you can't go huge distances on day trips. Make sure your leaps aren't to far each day.
It sort of depends on the areas that you want to focus. What I do sometimes is pick those focus areas and if they are quite a distance apart, I'll pick a place in between for an overnight.
As far as where to stay in Cork, it sort of depends on what you want to see and what other areas you intend to hit. It also depends on the time of year. During the high season, I might tend to stay in smaller villages, but in the low season, I would consider slightly larger. One day, I might actually stay in Cork City ... or not.
Bill has already given you some good advice from his extensive knowledge of Ireland (and multiple trips). I don't think that your plan is simplistic. It makes perfect sense to have a home base and really see the area. Sometimes -- as Bill mentioned -- when going between bases it makes sense to have one overnight if the distance is too great or if there is something wonderful to see along the way that will take time.
I enjoy staying at B&Bs also. Having local hosts who know the area, restaurants, etc. is a valauble asset. Also you get to personally know and interact with Irish people. In the good B&Bs hosts are very concerned about helping their guests have a good experience.
As for Cork, it is a very large county. But I do have some excellent recommendations there. Any idea of the towns or cities? Also take a look at my "Lodgings" page by clicking on IrelandYes Index.

P.S. Your book order came through to me and will be mailed on Tuesday. You will have it very shortly. Thanks!
