gone digital

Hello Michele and everyone!  My question may sound very stupid to those of you in the know, but I was wondering since I'm fairly new using a digital camera if there are kiosks in Ireland that you can transfer your pictures to a disk so that you can erase them and start over with the images that you've taken saved on the disk.  If any one knows how this works, I'd greatly appreciate any input.  Thanks!

Deborah

Hello Deborah,

I had no problems finding ways to download my pictures while in Ireland. Any store that has the Kodack sign in the window has the equipment, plus the numerous cyber cafe's were set up to do just that type of thing. I paid 7 Euro to have my photos put on a CD in Westport  a couple of years ago. I'm sure there are many more places to have it done now, plus it may be cheaper !

Have a great trip, and be sure to share your photos when you return !

Cheers!
Mark D.

Deborah,

Mark's info is correct. I would make sure that the disk works before erasing your other media. I  sure would hate to lose all my photos of Ireland.

Thank you so much Mark and Michele for the info.  I will try them out first on the disk Michele..what a good idea.  It would break my heart if I lost pictures of my dream trip.  Thanks once again!

And double check to make sure the cards work before you go over.  I brought 3 memory cards, and one was kaput when I tried to use it.  Luckily I had the other two!

Since I've gone digital my photo volume has increased incredibly.  I now take about 200-300 pics a day if I'm visiting castles and such -- but then again, I sell my photos, so there is a reason!  I did not want to lug a laptop around, and was worried about being in places without cafes, so I went on Ebay and purchased a 30G photo storage device.  It will read the photos from the memory card directly, and store them.  Since my camera (at the highest setting) takes about 650 pics per Gig, I think I am safe -- I can't imagine even me taking 19,500 pics on a two week trip!(that would be 1300 a day!) :)

we usually take about 200-300 pics in a week. so for a 2 week trip I just make sure I have enough memory. The memory cards just aren't that expensive anymore. So unless you think you'll take 200 a day, then you might not need to deal with the issue.

of course, I could be wrong...Ireland may be so photogenic I go over my limit! Still, I'm taking enough memory for 500+ pics. At $45/gig, where 1GB holds about 250 pictures from my 6MP camera, I think it will be fine.
