Cahir Castle or Rock of Cashel

We will be heading to Kenmare from Kilkenny. Since we have about a 4 hour drive that day, I'm thinking we could only make one stop that would be about 2 hours.. or so. That said, what would you recommend - Cahir or Cashel? Or, should we plan on a very early start as to not miss both?

I haven't been to Cahir yet (will be in 5.5 weeks) but I loved Rock of Cashel.  I love old, ruined abbeys and castles, and this is really both -- up on a nice hill overlooking the landscape.  It has a cute cultural museum as well, underground.

Irisheyes,

I would get an early start and try to see both. You will be going right through Cahir on your way to Kenmare anyway. If a scheduled tour is not going when you arrive at Cahir Castle you can tour on your own (although the tour is excellent and highly informative). You might skip the A/V presentation and that will save you time. If I could only see one, it would be the Rock of Cashel.

Thanks! I guess that's even more of a reason to get the car the afternoon before.
