Ireland Rail

I've tried various methods (short of calling the Irish Rail company) to get some answers and have been very unsuccessful...maybe someone here can help me.

I cannot secure a rail reservation until 28 days prior to departure of either the outbound or return part of my rail trip in Ireland. For example, If I were leaving on the first of the month and returning on the 28th on the month, I could not buy a reservation until the very day that I leave (on the first of the month).

Somehow, that does not seem correct, although I have logged on to the Ireland Rail web site and it tells me that that is true.

For those of you who are experienced Irish Rail travelers: is there a way that I can work around this 28 day restriction?

Any help will be appreciated.

Mark,

Those seem to be the Irish Rail rules. I would change them if I could but have no input with the Irish government! Sorry.

Thanks, Michele.

I kind of figured that I'm stuck with the 28 day rule.

At any rate, we're only 2 1/2 weeks away from our trip to Ireland and we're looking forward to it immensely.

Best Regards,

Mark,

You are counting down the days.  Before you know it you will be in Ireland. If we don't talk again before you go, have a wonderful trip. We would enjoy hearing about it when you return if you have the time.

Will do...we're walking the Ring of Kerry and we could not be more excited. Neither of us has ever been to Ireland which makes this trip very special.

Thanks for your continuing advice on this wonderful website.

Best,

Mark

Mark,

Walking the ROK sounds fabulous. I hope the weather is good for your trip. I'm sure you will have lots of great adventures. Please share them when you return. Always happy to add my "two cents" worth.
