It takes about 1 1/2 hours to drive from Bunratty to the Cliffs of Moher. You could spend 15 minutes there if you just want a quick look or you could hike around and easily spend an hour or more. Where were you planning to go in the Burren? What is your final destination?
My fiance (wife - two weeks from today!) would like to take the Cliffs of Moher cruise and we would also like to see the Burren. Would you recommend taking the cruise to the Aran islands and touring around (it lasts from 10am to 3pm) or just take the hour long off shore cruise and proceed to the burren. We will be approaching from Kilrush and traveling to Ennis. Is there enough time for the Aran islands and the Burren? Is it worth it to visit the islands?
The Burren is always open and with long daylight hours you can always drive through it any time. If the weather is good opt for the Aran Islands. I assume you will be going from Doolin? Then you can drive through the Burren on your way to Ennis.
Thanks Michele. I had not considered this option until today. Does this sound like it could work?
From Kilrush to spend a little time at the cliffs, then to Doolin to catch the ferry to Aran islands and then drive through the burren to Ennis. Ennis is our last stop and we're just looking to get into town, grab a pint and some music and hit the sheets.
It could work but you will need an early start. You have to drive from Kilrush to the cliffs (you do know they are undergoing construction?) then to Doolin. You need to arrive by 10 for the ferry to the Aran Islands. When you return you can drive through the Burren and on to Ennis. If you are going to arrive at your B&B after 6 pm definitely call them to let them know. Reservations expire at 6 on the dot. Music tends to be later in the evening after 9 pm.
Thanks Michele. I'll run it by my fiance and see what she thinks now that I have some info. We might not want to have another fast paced day with an early start. It would be a nice treat though. We'll see...
