Got in last Friday (6-30-06) and spent all day Saturday doing laundry for 4 people for 10 days. LOTS OF IT.
The trip was just awesome. The countryside was even more beautiful than the pictures we have seen on the "net" and in books. As I have been telling everyone, you have to see it to beleive it. We took over 200 photos. While ther I introduced my wife to the wonderful taste of Guinesss and she likes it and she also took in two rounds of golf with me and the boys. I think I have converted her . The driving was not that much of an adventure as originally thought, only broke one hubcap, pulling out of the Car Hire car park, GO FIGURE. Only drove on the wrong side of the road twice, but the wife caught me before any oncoming traffiic. The cars are smaller that ours, I am 6'4" - 270 LBS. and it was a tight squeeze. Do not beleve that the trunks will hold 3 suitcases, not true, we proved them worng. We did not like Dublin, too busy and crowded. We especially liked the southwest area the best, then Connemara next. We stayed for one day in Spanish Point, but did not like that area, not enough to do close by. I would say the third area would be the Cork area. I did get around to purchasing my whiskey and brought home some very good stuff. I also got the web site of the store (Celtic Whiskey Shop) and they told me they do ship to the US. I could write a novel of the trip, that is how much we liked it.
THANKS TO ALL who helped you all were lifesavers. WE WILL BE BACK and I will be bringing my brother and his family. Probablly in a few years, we need to recover from this one first ($$$$)
Glad o hear you had a great trip, Chris! If you feel up for a more detailed trip report (that novel you mentioned), rest assured many of us would love reading it. It helps pass the time while we save up for our next adventures. Welcome home!
Welcome back! It sounds like a great trip. As oopsy mentioned, feel free to write your complete trip report if you get the time. We love living vicariously through others' adventures. It also helps new ones plan their vacations.
I'm glad to hear you will be returning to Ireland when you have saved up enough. There is so much to see and do in such a small country!
