As discussed in one ot the trip reports, this is a picture of the new visitor center being constructed at the Cliff's of Moher. Now, the concept pictures of what it is supposed to look like when it is completed seem very nice. But for now, it is a real scar in the landscape. so, in case anyone is interested:
oh, don't let it stop you from seeing the cliffs. It doesn't matter much once you are on the path to see them. since we were talking about, I thought I'd show the shot I took. but I don't want to discourage anyone.
on the other hand, I'm sure the cliffs are gorgeous from the water!
Ginger, don't worry, China Cat's photo has prepared you for the initial shock of arriving to see the Cliffs of Moher looking torn up. But don't worry, just go ahead and take the walk along the wall...keep walking far enough, and I promise, you won't even be able to see the ugly construction any more! You will have a wonderful view, you just have to walk far enough to enjoy it. Eventually you will come to a sign that says you may not walk any further. Of course we would never dream of walking past that sign, where the view is awesome...ummm..nobody does, you know.
On the other hand, if you take the boat please tell us all about it and take photos for us!
On the third hand, , I"m pretty sure there are other cliffs in Ireland which are just as grand as the Cliffs of Moher, only less popular. Now if only I could have seen them on this trip...I will look for them on the next trip.
China Cat, was the construction site a surprise to you? It was to me, and I think it's better to be fore-warned.
I'm not discouraged...we'll see the cliffs no matter what. We had talked about the "cruise" just because it sounded like an adventure we would never have here in PA. My kids can't wait to see the "Cliffs of Insanity" (for those who don't know...check out the movie "The Princess Bride!)
For those who would like to view the concept drawings, etc. see: http://www.cliffsofmoher.ie/ It seems that most of the visitor's center will be underground and hidden from sight. They say it will be finished in early 2007. Let's see if that is accurate or if it goes on and on like Eyre Square did in Galway.
China Cat, thanks for the picture. Ugh... I'll have to look at the link Michele provided and get an idea of what it's supposed to look like when it's done.
Ginger, see the Cliffs from *all* angles! We took the cruise on the Moher Princess and loved it. It was great, because we had the boat to ourselves. Every now and then, the captain's helper, Sean, would come out and point out something of interest...and at one point, he warned us that we might want to come inside the cabin, as we were about to hit an area with lots of spray. (He was right--we would've been soaked if we'd stayed outside.) After the cruise, we went up to the Cliffs themselves.
Hi Willie, I'm getting a broken link instead of the picture you posted. I would like to see the picture you took from the boat. the cruise sounded like fun, I'm sorry we didn't have time/good weather to do it.
Oops! I'm looking at the page from home (I posted the photo from my computer at work, and of course it looked okay *there*...ugh) and you're right, the photo's not there.
I don't have experience with posting photos to forums... I did a "cut & paste," and since I could see it at work, I thought it worked. I'll try again. If I can't figure it out, I'll just post a link to my Yahoo photo album.
Willie, I just posted my first picture on this forum with the help of the great advice from Yesiree and China Cat...see the question posted on the foum about how to post digital photos on this web-site!
