Husband and I will be in Ireland next May, June for four weeks (yay!). Last night he said to me "Would you like to renew our wedding vows in Ireland?" Wow, and he isn't Irish or Catholic! Needless to say, I was surprised and pleased that he would even think of it. Now I have a question for you, and anyone else who would like to "chime" in. How does one go about this?
We will be in Inchigeelagh, County Cork, the home of the O'Learys ( of which I am one!). Should I e-mail the priest there for information? My delightful friend, Joe Creedon at Creedon's Hotel is also a possibility.
Has anyone you know of done this? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Since renewing vows is not something "official" like getting married the ceremony can be done by anyone. You can even do it yourselves. Many people have renewed vows in Dingle at Kilmalkedar touching fingers through the holed stone.
But if you want something more formal then emailing the priest or your hotel contact is an excellent idea. They will be able to give you more local info.
Thanks, Michele..I do think we had something a little more "formal". Me thinks I'll get in touch with Father Toomey in Inchigeelagh. Just didn't know if there was some kind of info around to clarify renewal vows. (We will be married 43 years in February, Our two sons tell us it's about time we made it legal!!)
Forty-three years definitely requires a big celebration and a vow renewal sounds great. Let me know how you get on and if I can offer any other help. Your sons are right!
