I could use a little help with my itinerary. My wife and I are planning our first trip to Ireland in November. We are going to fly from St. Louis to Dublin, spend 2 days in Dublin, fly to London and spend 7 days on an escorted tour of England and Scotland. We are then going to fly from London to Shannon and begin our self-escorted driving tour of southern Ireland. We are planning on staying in B&Bs along the way.
Of course, we have several guidebooks (and are eagerly awaiting the delivery of Michele's book), but we could use some advice on our itinerary (e.g., places to stay, sights to see) and just a general gut-check on whether we have packed too much into our days. Please take a look and let me know what you think. I have been so impressed with the amount of comments that others have gotten from similar posts, and how friendly and helpful people are, I am hoping that we will get some good comments as well.
Thank you very much for your time and help.

Welcome to the forum. Your itinerary looks fine. Waterford Castle would be a real treat and splurge among your B&Bs.
On Day 5 I would suggest you go through Co. Wicklow and stop at Glendalough and Powerscourt. There is not a tremendous amount of sightseeing in Waterford, which is rather industrial.
Make your reservations for the Bunratty Banquet ASAP. They fill up fast at any time of year. You will also want reservations in Dublin and for Waterford Castle.
Your schedule looks good. I do agree with Michelle that Waterford Castle would be a grand splurge! I would probably visit the Rock of Cashel before I would visit Blarney Castle but that is because I am not a fan of crowds and have no need for the Blarney Stone. At this time of year, Blarney Castle shouldn't be too crowded. Make sure you make your reservation for the Banquet at Bunratty very soon. As Michele pointed out, it is always a busy place.
Killarney is one of my "must & always" stops. I love Killarney National Park. My first time in Killarney, I hooked up with one of the walking tours on my first morning. If that is your cup of tea, here is the link to check it out further, www.killarneyguidedwalks.com . Jaunting Car rides are another of my favorites. There is something about the gentle jostle of the cart & the sound of the horse's hooves, which transports you. I was told the first time I drove the Ring of Kerry to do so counterclockwise from Killarney. I was told it was because the scenery unfolds in a more stunning pattern. I have done this religiously, so I cannot tell you if the view is any different traveling clockwise.
I did a two week tour of Scotland in June of this year. We will have to trade notes upon your return. Have a fabulous time, take a lot of pictures, make a lot of memories and remember that in Ireland there is no need to rush anywhere.
I like Killarney too, despite the fact that many think it is too touristy. The ROK is grand from either direction. Many times your starting and ending points will determine direction.
A friend and I just got back from a great three week vacation in Ireland - including Northern Ireland. I just wanted to make a comment about the ROK drive. It was raining on the day that we had set aside for that trip. We then decided to take a bus tour from Killarney and it was great (Deros Tours). I honestly could not see how any car driver could see anything while driving that narrow winding road. I did not drive on this trip (I'm getting up there in years) so this tour gave both of us a chance to see the fantastic coastline along the ROK. They picked us up at our B&B and the tour left Killarney at about 10-30am and got back there at aroung 4-45pm. We stopped for coffeee breaks, ice cream and lunch. On the way back to Killarney in the afternoon the sun was shining so we had great views of the Killarney lakes plus we were able to visit the spectacular Torc waterfall. We loved the town of Killarney. It has many fine shops and restaurants. The speed limit is high in the Republic of Ireland even for very narrow roads that are barely wide enough for two vehicles to pass. 100 Kilometres per hour in most cases!! Have a great trip. Ireland is absolutely great. daffy
