My in-laws would like to take a trip to Ireland but are weary of driving around the country. They are 63 & 68 and don't thing they could deal with it for a whole trip. However, they don't want to be stuck on a tour bus the whole time either...and chouffer service is too expensive. Are there any other options? Could they use just the rail system and get around with that and limit tour buses to things like ROK and Slea Head? I'd like to be able to help them out...any suggestions?
Most rail service bases out of Dublin but with much advance planning it can be done. Some good bases to catch day tours from are Killarney, Dublin, Galway, Cork, Belfast and Limerick. However, many tours are seasonal so it will depend on when they want to visit Ireland.
Thanks for the reply. There are no real plans yet...just dreams, but I think they would like to go in late May when everything is in bloom and it is not at peak season yet. They also have to figure out where exactly they would like to go. I know Co. Mayo is on the list because of family, but other than that they have no idea. It would be about a 3 week trip most likely, so time is not an issue...they're retired.
When I find out more, I'll have more questions! shawn
The dreaming stage of planning a trip to Ireland can be just as fun as going. Why don't you order your in-laws a travel package from Tourism Ireland? Then they can look at all the brochures, maps, etc. and get a general idea of what they want to see and do. Phone (US & Canada): 1-800-223-6470.
