B&B in Kilkenny

I am looking for a B&B in kilkenny city. I would like it to be in the price range of 30 - 45 euros. If it is little bit outside of town, but within walking distances of that is fine.

Thanks
Matt

Howdy Matt,

You should try Hillgrove, Cnoc Mhuire, The Laurels, or Twin Oaks, which is just outside of Kilkenny by 9 clicks.

As always CowboyCraic to the rescue. Do you live in Ireland? If you do I might have to stop by and buy you a couple pints of beer.

Hello Matt,

I only wish that I did live in Ireland. T'would then that my heart would finally be at peace. I have traveled her back roads and main roads many times. I love the smaller towns and the rich history of the B&Bs and guesthouses which are housed in ancient homes. I love the crash of the sea upon her shores. I love the velvet silence of her wooded glens. However the thing that pulls me always is the friendly, welcoming spirit of her people. My hope is that by helping you plan your trip you will be able to experience all of this and more.

I want others to come to know her and love her as I assuredly do. That is why I offer my help, admittedly holding my breath as I do, hoping not to step on the toes of the main provider of the website. Micehel is a true treasure in her own right. You will find many who are knowledgeable about Ireland but you will find few with as much grace and spirit as Michele.

Maybe one day, we will meet and then you can stand me a dram of whiskey.

Matt,

In addition to Cowboy Craic's suggestions try both Alcantra and Laragh House. They are both very nice and walking distance to the city.

RE: B&B in Kilkenny

Matt,

My husband and I stayed at Laragh House in July.  It's close to town.  The rooms are large and spacious, nand the manager is very helpful and knowledgeable.  It's termed a guest house, so it's more like a small hotel than a b&b.  It's very nice though, and very clean and inviting.

Pat,

Thanks for your recommendation of Laragh House. I just stayed there in October and enjoyed it very much. It will be reviewed in the next edition of my book.

RE: B&B in Kilkenny

Hello Matt, how I wish I was going back to Kilkenny with you!  I loved it around there, so much to see and do!  Before we went I tried to book Alcantra, which looked awesome, but unfortunately they were booked at the time.  So upon further investigation, I could only get Sun. and Mon. in town and Sat. just out of town.  Saturdays are very busy in Kilkenny!  Out of town we stayed at Hillgrove on the Sat. night, which isn't very far as Cowboy Craic stated.  It was lovely and we had the best breakfast of our journey there.  I would definitely stay there again. The lovely hostess then guided us to our in-town stay, where everything was within walking distance.  It was at Dunromin with very wonderful, friendly and knowledgable hosts.  Our room was very spacious and comfortable.  I would also stay there again.  Tom, the host even gathered his guests together one morning to have a sing song, which was very entertaining and memorable.  I hope you have as much fun planning your trip as I did, and have a great time!

Matt,

Keep in mind that at this time of year many B&Bs close and the owners go on vacation themselves. They have to recharge after the long season. If you are not getting replies it may be because they are away for a while. Be patient. You have time.

Oh, do stick to it with Alcantra - they may be on vacation!  It did take several days between emails when I was in contact with her this spring (I stayed there in June) but it is SOOOO worth it!

Alcantra is about 3 city blocks from Kilkenny castle, and they make you feel very at home.  The breakfasts are fantastic!!!  There is a road just behind her house, but the traffic dies away around bedtime.  Highly recommended!

That is what i had decide to do. Michele, Cowboy Craic and Irisheyes thanks for the advice on a great B&B. I have sent them two emails got a reply on one, but nothing yet on the second one. I do not leave for another 5 months so I am not in a rush. Like Michele said they are on vacation right know, so when they get home they will get in touch with me.

Matt,

After the first of the year send another email to the B&B that did not reply. Sometimes emails actually don't go through to Ireland or they get lost in the tons of emails after a vacation.

We LOVED KIlkenny (plus it is where my family comes from). We stayed at Cnoc Mhuire a few years ago - we liked it quite a bit but it was NOT walking distance. But there is a parking garage right down thr road on the edge of the shops & restaurants.

Hi,

A couple of years ago we spent a few nights at Butler Court in Kilkenny. A great place, the location cannot be beat - just steps from the town center. The price on the website looks high but we were able to do much better in May.
