May or September

Hi!  I'm trying to plan my first trip to Ireland.  We want to go next year.  My husband and I are looking at two possible times, May 21-31st, or September 20-30th.  Which would you recommend?  I've been trying to find pros and cons for a Spring verses Fall trip.

Thanks!!

Hello,

A lot will depend on what it is that you want to see & do. The Autumn season in Ireland can be a blaze of colors. The Spring Season and May in particular brings the flora into all of its glory. The formal gardens are amazing in May and not so colorful in September. Also, what areas you want to visit will make a difference. May is still outside of High season and September is at the tail end of the high season. There wil be a lot of festivals occurring then which might mean crowds.

There is no bad time to go to Ireland. Each season has its pros & cons. It all depends on what you want to experience. Spring would be my favorite as I love to see everything blooming.

I hope this helps.

carriem837,

You have received some good advice already from Cowboy Craic. Also take a look at my FAQs page. I have traveled many times in both months and must admit a preference for May. But spring is my favorite season so take that into consideration.
