My husband is planning a trip for our family to Ireland at the end of March. It will be for 7 days and we will take along our 8 1/2 year old boy and just turned 3 year old girl. He is working through a travel agent who is recommending Lynott Tours. We want to do a self guided package and she is suggesting the Lynott Tours Ireland Self-Drive Tour B&B w/ farewell castle night.
I'm hoping you can give me a little insite into if this is a good direction and company for us to use. It will be our first trip there and first time out of the country for myself and the kids. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much and happy holidays!
Welcome to the forum. I hope you find it a good place to get all your questions answered about your trip.
You are thinking of purchasing a fly/drive/voucher package from your travel agent through Lynott Tours. Are they giving you a per person rate? Is the rate the same or lower for the children? You must add it all up to get your final cost.
As you know, your travel agent and the tour company make money by selling you the airfare, car rental and vouchers. Many times it costs less if you put the three pieces of the puzzle together yourself.
Using vouchers is a whole 'nother subject that we have discussed many times on the forum. They do limit where you can stay since not all places accept them. Sometimes you pay more for the vouchers than actually just paying cash as you go.
Here is what to do. Get your total quote for the fly/drive/voucher package. Then do a bit of research yourself. B&Bs generally cost 35-45 euro per person. Children are deeply discounted when sharing a room with parents. Castle stays are usually extremely expensive (take a look at my Castle Hotel page and click through on the links for rates). Next, get a couple of online quotes for car rental and airfares. Add it all up to see if you are really getting a good deal through your travel agent.
Sceptre Tours has some deeply discounted prices on fly/drive/voucher packages. If you still want to go with that you might want to look into them.
It always pays to do a bit of homework and be an informed consumer before purchasing anything.
